We are excited to share an important milestone for Programa Apapacho with you.
On June 3rd, we were honored with the Lápiz de Acero Award in the Service Design category, one of the most relevant design recognitions in Colombia.
Since 1997, the Lápiz de Acero has recognized proposals that expand what design can do across different sectors. In our category, the focus is on services that are useful, clear in their interactions, efficient, and meaningful for people.
Apapacho was born from this very challenge: to design, together with ICBF, Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), and Rediseñando Mundos, a way to support caregiving that works in everyday life and within the public system.
In this edition, we were nominated alongside high-impact national initiatives such as Bre-B by Bancolombia, Fibi (breast cancer support), and Bink (access to employee benefits), among others. You can learn more about the other nominees here.
Today, the program is integrated into different ICBF service modalities and implemented hand in hand with frontline staff and families. Our solution pathway includes:
- An 11-week caregiving program
- Community-based games for collective learning
- Publications designed for use at home.
- This recognition highlights something that has been central to our work: building a living service. An iterative process that adapts, is tested, and evolves within the public system. If you would like to learn more about our service, you can visit our nomination page.
